The long awaited Motorola Moto Q will finally be unveiled next week in the USA, likely soon to follow in the UK
Wednesday, May 17, 2006
At long last, the Motorola Moto Q smartphone is due to be unveiled in the USA next week, and will most likely follow in the UK markets soon.
The Moto Q was originally announced almost a year ago and at the time seemed to be a serious contender in the world of mobile email devices likely to challenge Research in Motions Blackberry series, which we have seen in the UK in the forms of the Blackberry 7100t, Blackberry 7100v, Blackberry 7100x, Blackberry 7290 and the Blackberry 8700g.
The specifications, including a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth and a full "QWERTY" keyboard (you can see a full run down of the specifications in our Motorola Moto Q section) all seemed to point to the Moto Q becoming the handset of choice for email on the move. Add to this the fact that the Moto Q is an extremely pocket friendly 11.5mm thick versus the deeper profile of the Blackberry series and the Motorola device seemed to be a winner. You can see how the Moto Q compares in size to the Blackberry series using our Compare Mobile Phone Sizes tool.
However this was a year ago and the landscape has changed where the specifications of the Motorola Moto Q have not. The 1.3 megapixel camera is no longer the top of the line camera it was a year ago with the forthcoming release of 3.2 megapixel cameras putting the Q's camera quality to shame, and it's other standard features being expected in most mobile phone models. However it does still offer the full "QWERTY" keyboard and push email which sets it apart from many of the other available UK mobile phones.
The real question now is whether or not the Motorola Q can beat the Blackberry devices on usability on the move as the extra features are no longer as attractive in comparison to the rest of the market, and there are some murmurs in the industry that the Windows based push email service that the Motorola Q employs simply doesn't measure up to Blackberry's push email technology, however a consensus on this will only be available after the Moto Q has sold a significant number of units.
