BenQ-Siemens try to tap into the hard wearing, active persons mobile phone market

BenQ-Siemens has announced there 1st hard wearing, durable mobile phone since the two companies merged. The M81 is surrounded in synthetics and rubber to provide a sturdy grip on the handset which is also shock, dust and water resistance. The 262k TFT display is also scratch resistant.

The recently announced Nokia 5500 Sport is also a hardy handset which is splash and dust resistant but is designed more for people with an active/sporty lifestyle as it also has special features such as a built in pedometer.

Features include tri band, a 1.3 mega pixel camera which is kept safe by a revolving cover, and an LED light allows for better shots at night and also doubles as a flashlight. Bluetooth headphones can be used with the integrated music player. Your music is stored on microSD memory cards so there is plenty of room to store all your favorite songs. As a little extra there is also an application included that tells you the weather forecast with data downloaded over an EDGE wireless connection.

The M81 will be released in August in two different colours – steel blue and graphite black.
