Orange will be increasing the cost of their itemised billing service, and without taking action consumers will automatically be charged with the increase
The option of itemised billing is handy for you to track down your most expensive calls and which numbers (cross network calls, local and national etc.) you call most often on your mobile phone, but in many cases customers tend to prefer a bill summary as this is free of charge from all networks.
If you are an Orange customer, take note of your next mobile phone bill. You need to pay attention to a little memo at the bottom of your bill informing you of an itemised billing charge increase of 50p taking the charge per month up to £1.50. The charge will start to apply automatically next month. Anyone who doesn’t want the option of itemised billing will receive a bill showing the summary of their calls, but to avoid being charged the £1.50 per month you need to contact Orange directly to cancel the itemised service.
Is this fair of Orange to automatically put you on itemised billing? They could follow in Vodafone's footsteps who automatically put their customers on the free summary bill when they changed their itemised billing charge, giving customers the option to add itemised billing should they require it. This is much better for the customer as many people won't even realise the increase until they receive their first bill showing the £1.50 charge.
The increase in price seems to be due to the Wanadoo rebranding, but Orange have been vague about explaining the reasons why they have changed the cost of the service.
