We analyse the latest designs from Motorola and take a look at their possible successes and pitfalls.
After yesterdays article on the new Motorola K1 ‘canary’ mobile phone we look more closely into Motorola’s new mobile phone designs.
Nearly three years from the launch of the Motorola RAZR V3 it is still a top seller. The V3 has had several re-issues, different colour schemes and slight tweaks yet it still proves to be a big hit. This shows that consumers may be less concerned about the features of their mobile phone as long as it looks good.
The Motorola PEBL U6 and Motorola SLVR L7 handsets have been less popular than the V3 models including the Motorola V3i and the Motorola V3x, which has asked questions of whether or not it will be possible to sustain sales on new handsets based on the V3’s three year old design.
Ignacio Germade is the man responsible for Motorola’s designs and believes that design, not features is the key to selling mobile phones. When the Motorola V3 Pink was released it stood out from the crowd as many handsets were silver or black. Now other mobile phone manufacturers have followed suit with many mobiles now being released in a selection of colours to boost sales.
The question is how long can similar ‘RAZR’ design Motorola mobile phones last? With the K1 and the Motorola W375 mobile phone soon to be released, only time will tell if people are still in love with the slim, stylish, flip design or whether they are simply bored of the collection of similar RAZR handsets and opt for different models that boast extra features such as the improved camera’s of the Sony Ericsson K800i or the feature reach WiFi enabled style of the Nokia N80.
