New ruling brings customers cashback deal reassurance
Many people don’t purchase cashback deals because they seem too good to be true, and they don’t believe they will receive their money back. Horror stories of customers not being paid out from various different mobile phone retailers are common although often it is never made clear as to why.
At Onecompare we ensure all the companies on our website are reputable companies who honour their cashback deals and we are also here to help you with your cashback queries, for example with our free cashback reminder service offered to anyone who places an order through Onecompare.
The cashback reminder service works out your claiming dates and also reminds you by email a few weeks before you need to send in your claims to ensure you send your bills in at the correct time. Our customer service team is also on hand to help, should you need any questions answering regarding your deal or the company in question.
Although the companies featured on Onecompare are reputable, there are rogue companies out there who don’t honour their cashback deals. Last week a county court ordered the owner of a mobile company offering ‘phony’ cashback deals to stop misleading customers, making it a civil offence for him not to pay cashback as promised.
He had to pay costs of nearly £20,000, stop putting misleading advertisements in the national press, stop charging customers for cancelled contracts and start paying cashback within a reasonable time.
This ruling acts as a precedent and will make it easier for courts to prosecute other dealers who falsely sell cashback deals in the future. This is also the first ruling made under the new enterprise act, meaning the ruling is directed at the individual not the company effectively forbidding them from setting up a new company to sidestep the ruling.
