Nokia announce two new 5000 series mobile phones
Monday, October 02, 2006
Nokia have announced two new additions to the 5000 series, the 5200 and the 5300. Both phones look very similar as both are slider phones and look almost identical to the Nokia 6111. The difference between the two phones is that the 5200 is aimed more at the budget market, featuring less extras than the 5300.
At first glance the 5200 and 5300 don’t look very different at all, but the 5200 is an inferior device compared to the 5300, although it does have a few good extra features included. Its main selling point is that it’s a music phone with a MP3 player and FM radio, and it has microSD expandable memory. The camera is quite basic at 0.3 mega pixel VGA resolution.
The Nokia 5300 carries the XpressMusic name, with stereo FM radio, MP3 player, and expandable memory of up to 2Gb. It also has external dedicated multimedia keys.
The camera is slightly better than the 5200, though certainly nowhere near market leading at 1.3 mega pixels; it also has Bluetooth, 12 days standby time and 3 hours talk time.
Both the 5200 and the 5300 are 92 x 48 x 21mm in size and weigh in at 104 grams. They are both due for release in early quarter 4 this year, but with only a small difference in price between both handsets we think that most people will be swayed towards the 5300, especially pay monthly customers.
