Ready for the release of their new mobile phone, OpenMoko has launched a new site which will hold all resources for the new NEO1973

OpenMoko, the open Linux-based mobile application has finally opened access to their new site, set to be the source of all OpenMoko related items including a big report and an RSS aggregator, ready for its new customers when the NEO1973 is released. The OpenMoko phone is set to be released at the end of this month, and the first batch will be coded named ‘phase 0’.

On their new site, specific areas include the OpenMoki wiki, Bugzilla, RSS aggregator and Projects.

The OpenMoko wiki is to be an ongoing resource on NEO1973 development - the GSM+AGPS Smartphone running OpenMoko. Their intention is to collaboratively improve and update all information on this site so OpenMoko users will have a place to benefit from the continuous updates.

The OpenMoko Bugzilla is not just a list of known bugs in OpenMoko, but also to keep track of feature requests and wish list items.

Plant OpenMoko is an RSS aggregator for weblogs of developers involved in the project. It can be used to get access to the latest rumours and first-hand reports on the OpenMoko.

OpenMoko Projects is where the people at OpenMoko provide a free infrastructure to individuals, who want to develop software for the OpenMoko platform,

The NEO1973 has been dubbed the phone for developers, being totally open and editable. It is based on open hardware specifications and uses a Free Software operating system platform known as GNU/Linux which means that all the hardware and software code is open to developers, engineers and designers to build on and potentially create things even far more exciting than the current Apple iPhone, which is a closed book when it comes to customizing.

You are also able to download software and install as much as you like, as well as modifying the original source software which comes as a default on the phone. You can also write your own games, GPS applications, PIM software, media players and phone applications.

All interested developers can purchase a Neo starting late march, but are warned that as this batch is still phase 0, it is still in a system of checks and balances so it cannot be hurried.

End users who also wish to purchase a Neo will be able to get their hands on one sometime in September of this year.
