Sagem to produce cheap Sony Ericsson branded mobile phones.
Sony Ericsson has struck a deal with Sagem allowing them to produce cheap Sony Ericsson branded mobile phones. This will allow, Sony Ericsson to quickly increase its branded market share in the low end market, and also allow Sagem to become a considerable contract manufacturer.
Larger brands like Nokia and Motorola tend to stifle the low end market and push out smaller companies such as Sagem. This has seen Sagem struggle in the past along with other smaller manufacturers.
This pairing will hopefully bring some new designs to Sony Ericsson as they seem to be sticking to the same old style due to the popularity of the handsets, for example the similarities in design can be seen in the K610i, K750i, K550, W610, and the W660 or the clamshell mobile phones Z525, W710, Z530 and the Z710.
Sagem produce new designs regularly making their mobile phones more interesting to look at and they therefore stand out from the crowd, for example the my501c, myZ-5, my600v and the my215x are all very different from each other. Hopefully we will see some of this creativeness in the new Sony Ericsson branded mobile phones they will be producing.
