Virgin has released a £15 per month, 6 month sim only mobile phone contract, as an alternative option to 12 and 18 month contracts.
Tuesday, April 03, 2007
18 month contracts generally seem like a good deal at the time but 1st time 18 month contract customers are now regretting signing up for such a long contract as they aren't getting a new handset as often as they would like. This has driven many customers to purchase the phone of their choice on a pre pay deal and swap over the pre pay sim card for their contract sim card.
18 month agreements have even infuriated operators and retailers as they have slowed down new contract customer sign ups. As many people are locked into their current 18 month contracts, Carphone Warehouse and Phones4u are now offering to buy customers out of their last few months of their contract if they agree to sign up to a new contract.
Virgin is trialling the 6 month sim cards in Carphone Warehouse's online store, PhoneSpot, Onestopphoneshop and E2Save. For your £15 a month you receive 150 anytime cross network minutes, and 150 text messages, which is much better value than the Virgin £20 12 month contract which gives you 50 anytime cross network minutes and 100 text messages per month.
If the trial is successful Virgin are considering the possibility of bundling in a cheap mobile phone. Another good idea would be for Virgin to offer you a basic mobile phone for free or offer you a discount on the phone of your choice.
