Independent retailer charges customers for cashback guarantee.
Click Mobile are an independent retailer with stores in London who on the 6th April began offering a Cashback Protection Service. For the tidy sum of £29.16 Click will insure your cashback deal on the 3 network.
Click have been underwritten by Lloyds of London for the insurance policies, meaning that should Click cease trading Lloyds of London will pay all outstanding cashback deals for customers with the new insurance.
Sounds like a great deal yes?
Well actually no!
This doesn’t mean that those paying for the insurance policies will be exempt from having to claim their cashback in accordance with Click’s terms and conditions – it is simply a backup plan should Click go bust.
Why should you as a customer pay extra to make sure you get cashback from the company you buy the deal from? If Click is so sure of their deals and the stability of their company surely they shouldn’t need to insure them. This is almost an admission by Click that their company could disappear leaving many customers without their cashback.
Onecompare.com also has to wonder why only deals on the 3 network are being insured, so anyone that buys on 3 will be safe should Click fold at some point but all those on any other network would still lose their cashback.
Click Mobile have already been reprimanded about their cashback deals last month. They were reportedly offering up to £950 cashback on certain Orange deals. Orange’s distributor held meetings with Click and it was agreed that these deals should be pulled immediately.
In our opinion this is a scheme to trick customers into believing that their cashback is safe with Click when actually they still stand to lose a lot of cashback on many of the deals that Click offer. Paying extra for the privilege of definitely receiving your cashback from a retailer simply isn’t an acceptable tactic and customers should be wary of dealing with this company.
