Pirelli Discus has announced the upgrade to the DP-L10 (also known as the Tovo t450g).

The soon to be released DP-M30 can be used as a standard GSM mobile phone or on a WiFi network.  The DP-M30 is a massive improvement to the DP-L10 and this can be noticed immediately by the DP-M30’s appearance.

The DP-M30 is a very eye catching clamshell mobile phone; its silver fascia gives the handset a stylish shine.  There is a 1.1” 96 x 96 pixel display screen with external media controls underneath.  It looks similar to the U880 and U890 3G handsets by LG.  When opened it reveals a clearly set out numerical keypad and navigational dial and a 2.2” 240 x 320 pixel main display screen.

Not only is the DP-M30 much more appealing to the eye than its predecessor but it also includes several features.  This was a drawback with the DP-L10 as it only had basic features; the DP-M30 however could rival many mobile phones currently on the market.  It boasts a 2 mega pixel camera, MP3 player supporting AAC, MPEG4 and 3GP formats with external media controls and playback via stereo wired headset.  It accepts microSD cards (maximum capacity of 1GB), web browser, email client, java support, and Bluetooth.

The unique selling point of the DP-M30 is the fact that you can use it on a WiFi network.  The handset works with VoIP and SIP gateways.  SIP is a rival to the Skype system but it isn’t as widely heard of as Skype.  The VoIP and SIP services can be used via Pirelli Broadband Solutions or from other manufacturers.  These services allow you to make calls over your IP network (the internet).  You may need to subscribe to the services before you can make reduced price calls.  This is especially handy for international calls such as contacting friends and family abroad for a fraction of the price of a standard call from your landline or mobile phone.

Hopefully this will give internet telephony a boost as you can use your mobile phone for both your internet calls and your regular calls, and save yourself some money by doing so!
