The Sidekick iD is T-Mobile’s budget version of its Sidekick range.

T-Mobile has announced the Sidekick iD which is due for release on April the 25th in America

It has dropped some of the features on the previous Sidekick mobile phones to allow it to be sold at a lower price of around 99.99 US Dollars (this is approximately £50).  T-Mobile has decided to get rid of the MP3 player, EDGE high speed data, camera and Bluetooth but it will keep the same full HTML compatible web browser, Windows Live messenger and messenger client for AIM, T-Mobile’s myFaves and Yahoo.

The handset has interchangeable coloured ‘bumpers/corner covers’ allowing you to customise your mobile phone to your very own style. It will be available in white, yellow, red, purple, blue, black and glow in the dark!

The iD weighs in at 179g and measures 5.1 x 2.5 x 0.9 inches which is roughly the same size as the previous Sidekick’s.  An advantage to the lack of extra features is that it gains an extra hour of talk time and an extra few days of standby time.  It has a large 2.4” swivelling display screen with 240 x 160 pixel resolution, full QWERTY keyboard and convenient trackball (as featured on the Sidekick 3).

Despite the iD losing some of its features, its low price and colourful fascia’s will most probably appeal to teenagers on a budget who want to access the internet on their mobile phone.  This is a brilliant option when you consider adding the WebnWalk plan for £7.50 per month which gives you unlimited internet browsing.  The release date in the UK is yet to be announced, but keep checking our news pages for updates.
