Orange to offer the country’s first overdraft service for Pay As You Go customers
The new service called Reserve Tank, offers Orange PAYG customers a £2.50 credit facility, allowing them to continue to make calls and send texts once their pre-paid credit has run out.

The new service called Reserve Tank, offers Orange PAYG customers a £2.50 credit facility, allowing them to continue to make calls and send texts once their pre-paid credit has run out.
How it works:
As soon as you don't have enough credit to make a call or send a text message, you can switch on your Reserve Tank by calling 450. Orange will then instantly give you an extra £2.50 credit. Calls and texts using Reserve Tank cost 20% more than normal. If you have Magic Numbers, these will be charged at your Reserve Tank rates rather than Magic Number rates.
Once you top-up your phone and pay back the £2.50 credit, prices revert to the standard rates and your Magic Numbers will be back to normal.
Anthony Ball, Director of OneCompare.com comments:
Oranges new overdraft facility will simply become the new “no credit left” point for people. The plan which costs £1.00 to activate and allows a deficit of £2.50 will simply allow Orange to charge customers who go into their overdraft a higher rate of 18p per minute than the standard rate of 15p per minute for calls. The benefits of pay-as-you-go deals mean people are unable to run-up a phone bill and can therefore stick within their budget.
Many pay-as-you-go customers, particularly older people and pensioners, are not heavy mobile users and often use their mobile phone just to make an emergency call. I would recommend the Vodafone Friends and Family package, which allows free calls to five nominated Vodafone members in a group with one person paying £5 per month.”
Reserve Tank is part of Oranges new Speak Easy plan, you can set up your Reserve Tank now, by texting TANK to 2002, free from your Orange phone. There is a one-off £1 set up fee. Then call 450 free each time you want to switch it on.
