Motorola officially unveil the Motorola RAZR2 V8 and V9 models.
The successor to one of the most iconic mobiles ever made The Motorola RAZR2 is unveiled with two versions on the horizon - the first one is the Motorola RAZR2 V8 which has quad-band GSM/EDGE network support, while the second one is the Motorola RAZR2 V9 which is a quad-band GSM/EDGE/3G/HSDPA-enabled device. The V9 is slightly thicker than the V8 but apart from this, the differences are minimal. The Razr2 includes something Moto is calling "Crystal Talk" technology that automatically adjusts volume and tone based on ambient noise. Other features include a 2-inch QVGA primary display, 2.2-inch QVGA secondary display, external music controls, haptics for tactile feedback when external touchscreen keys are pressed, Windows Media Player sync, a full HTML browser, the full suite of Bluetooth profiles and twice the screen resolution of the original RAZR.
It does however have a disappointing 2.0 megapixel camera, with no autofocus or flash and a pretty low video resolution of 176x144 pixels. Which means it is no match for such phones as the Sony Ericsson K810i or Nokia N95 with 3.2 megapixel and 5 megapixel cameras respectively.
Although the Razr2 is packed with features, one of its biggest drawbacks is its looks. We all know the original Razr V3 revolutionised the mobile phone industry when it was released back in mid-2004, but since then Motorola have been unable to provide a handset with any real panache. You can't deny the Motorola Razr 2 has a lot going on underneath but the first thing consumers see is the exterior which unfortunately lacks style and originality, especially when compared to such phones as the LG Chocolate and Shine.
The Motorola RAZR2 V8 will be available in July 2007, while the Motorola RAZR2 V9 is expexted to hit shelves in Q3 2007.
