Mobile browsing tailored to work as it does on your PC.
Monday, June 18, 2007
Vodafone have been developing technology to enable mobile users to experience the internet as they would on a PC. The new technology allows web pages to be tailored to over 150 different mobiles and compressed by 10 times, meaning that pages fit mobile screen width and you only need scroll up and down the page, and connections are much quicker.
The chief marketing officer for Vodafone stated:
“We never said we wanted to be the first to market; we want to be the best.”
Vodafone have partnered up with several major brands allowing mobile users access to Google, eBay, YouTube, MySpace and Yahoo! Mail as they would on a PC, without losing any of the design or information on the page.
To coincide with the new and improved mobile internet Vodafone have announced a new pricing structure, for casual users there is a pay as you use option which allows you to surf unlimited for a maximum of £1 a day, or for regular users there is a £7.50 unlimited subscription offer.
However, Vodafone have decided that for £7.50 per month customers will be limited to 120MB of data use - which definitely isn’t the best ‘unlimited’ allowance around. T-Mobile offer Web n Walk for the same price but give you 1GB of data usage, 3 are offering 1GB of data for just £5.00 per month under the X-Series add on. Vodafone are fairing better than Orange who have recently decided that for £8 a month their ‘unlimited’ data package should be limited at a measly 30MB per month!
