National postal strike may delay cashback claims and new mobile phone orders. Please make allowances for the possibility of longer delivery times than usual.
Wednesday, June 27, 2007
On Friday 29th June Britain will be facing its first national postal strike since 1996. The stoppage has been called by the Communication Workers Union. 77% of Royal Mails CWU members who took part in the vote have supported the move.
The walkout is over disputes with Royal Mail over its 2.5% pay rise offer. The union is legally obligated to give Royal mail 7 days notice of any industrial action. The postal strike will go ahead unless an agreement is negotiated with Royal Mail.
The union held three ballots including Royal Mail workers as well as employees involved in pay and job disputes. Approximately 5,000 union members who worked in post offices opposed the closures, pay and the relocating of post offices to inside WH Smith stores.
The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) have warned that the strike would affect small businesses most who rely on Royal Mail, as other mail providers do not offer an alternative to small firms because of their size.
Due to the postal strike OneCompare.com would like to advise all our customers who have cashback claims due to be sent in to post them in by recorded delivery and well within your specified claiming period to ensure your claims are received by the retailer on time. New orders may also be delayed, so please make allowances for this when ordering your new mobile phone.
