Hundreds of people queuing outside stores already!

The Apple iPhone is set for release at 6pm local time (11pm GMT) and at Apples flagship store in New York several people have been queuing since Monday, with many more queues building up around American stores.  The number of handsets available has not been disclosed, but it is anticipated that stock will sell out by early next week.  We are sure many of these will end up on eBay over the weekend.

The iPhone is available for $499 for the 5GB version or $599 for 8GB, a two year contract must be signed and tariffs start at $59.99, however, tariffs do include unlimited data.  People wanting to buy the iPhone can go to Apple or AT&T stores or buy from Apple online, handsets will be limited to two per customer.  Lucky Apple employees who have worked for the company for over a year will be given a free iPhone!

All the Apple stores will stay open until midnight tonight to cope with demand, and on Saturday stores will begin running free workshops to show iPhone owners how to get the best from their phone.

The UK can look forward to a similar frenzy when the iPhone is released here later this year, but why spend hours queuing? Enter OneCompare.com's Apple iPhone competition to win an iPhone on it's UK release date!
