Apple said to be concluding the deal with the UK mobile operator

Up until now Vodafone had always been seen as the front runner to take on the European iPhone later this year, however reports are now saying that O2 are on the way to signing the contract.

In terms of customer numbers O2 is the biggest mobile network in the UK, with around 18 million customers, but Vodafone wins in terms of revenue market share.

Apple are said to be looking for more than one partner to link up with in Europe, unlike America where it signed up solely with mobile network AT&T.  Rumours have been bouncing around for a while now, with Vodafone and Carphone Warehouse being the most hotly tipped to sell the iPhone.

However, if current rumours are true it could mean that Vodafone lose out. Neither Apple nor O2 have commented on the rumours, so we could still see a change by the finishing post.

Another rumour buzzing around is that of information found on a hacked iPhone. Within the Apple system four files were found:

• Default_CARRIER_ATT.png
• Default_CARRIER_CINGULAR.png
• Default_CARRIER_TMOBILE.png
• Default_CARRIER_VODAFONE.png

Could this mean that Apple have already decided or agreed on who will be carrying the iPhone?
