Only network to beat the EU cap so far.
Friday, July 20, 2007
The EU have set a cap of 33ppm to make a call within the EU and 16ppm to receive a call. All the networks are to have lowered their rates to at least this amount by the 29th August 2007.
Tesco have already dropped their rates as of 12th July – to 35ppm to make a call and 15ppm to receive a call. Earlier this week Orange were the second network to announce a change to their international calling rates. As of the 30th August Orange customers will pay 38ppm to make a call in EU countries and 19ppm to receive a call. This is still above the EU cap, but is much lower than their current rates.
However, today 3 have announced a fantastic drop in international call costs! As of 30th August all calls made within the EU will cost just 25ppm and it will cost just 10ppm to receive a call whilst in the EU.
3’s price drop is a massive drop below the EU cap, the 25p rate is 34% cheaper than the EU rate and the cost to receive a call is a reduction of 47%. This just shows 3’s commitment to customer care.
We are still waiting for o2, T-Mobile, Virgin and Vodafone to announce their price cuts, but will any of them beat 3’s offering?
