Slide, Flip and Candybar phones – a style to suit everyone.

The Samsung S730i is a touch sensitive slide phone similar in styling to the popular U600, and with very similar features. The U600’s 3 megapixel camera has been replaced with a 2 megapixel one but i-mode has been added to the S730i.

The front keypad is touch sensitive, it has a good sized 80MB internal memory which can be expanded by microSD card and you can listen to your music on Bluetooth stereo headphones. It is a good size, working out only slightly bigger than the U600 – 100 x 50 x 14.8 mm, and weighing in at 83g.

This looks to be a decent Samsung phone, however, with the exception of the i-mode it really doesn’t have anything new to offer that the U600 or D900 hasn’t already.

The Flip style phone is the SV60, a 3G flip phone with a 1” external colour display. The SV60 has a 2 megapixel main camera and a secondary VGA camera for video calling. The internal memory is just 30MB, but this can be expanded, again by microSD card.

This is quite an unusual phone for Samsung as the majority of their recent phones have been slide phones, so a nice clamshell is a good addition the range.

The final new announcement was for the Z170 a standard Candybar shaped phone. Again this is a 3G phone comprising of a measly 1.3 megapixel main camera and VGA videocall camera.

The Samsung Z170 has an internal memory of 55MB, and has a microSD card slot. This is an unusual looking phone and actually looks quite old fashioned, but at 9.3 mm and just 76g it is a very slim, light handset.

There is no word as yet on release dates or prices for any of the three phones. All three look to be aiming for the more affordable range of the market.
