Roaming charges brought in line with the EU cap.
Thursday, July 26, 2007
Last week o2 announced they will be lowering international call rates within the EU. The changes will be effective immediately, as they are simply lowering the costs of ‘My Europe’. My Europe is a free add on that customers must opt into to benefit from, it previously cost 35ppm to make a call and 35ppm to receive a call. The cost to make a call is staying the same and the cost to receive a call has now dropped to just 18ppm.
Whenever an o2 customer enters an EU country they will be sent a reminder message to call customer service and add on My Europe to benefit from the new lower rates. From September 30th all new customers will be automatically put onto My Europe, unless they opt to go onto My Europe Extra which gives even lower call costs but costs £10 extra per month.
Next in line for cost reducing is T-Mobile, who have announced that they will be lowering their standard charges for calls within the EU. Making a call in an EU country will cost 38ppm and receiving a call while away will cost 18ppm. This is a great saving from their current standard rates, and will take effect from August 30th for all customers.
Vodafone have just announced that they will be bringing in a new roaming tariff called Vodafone World. This will take effect from August 29th and will mean calls from EU countries are 38ppm and to receive a call will be 19ppm.
New customers will be automatically put onto Vodafone World, but will still be given the option of moving to Vodafone Passport, which will better suit those who make longer calls abroad. Customers who are currently on Passport will be given the option of moving over to Vodafone World.
We are now just waiting for an announcement from Virgin to see what they will lower their call costs to.
