OneCompare.com director Anthony Ball comments on OFCOM’s proposed code of practice to combat mis-selling in the mobile phone industry.
Following the announcement from OFCOM on their new voluntary code to combat mis-selling in the mobile phone industry, Anthony Ball, Director of OneCompare.com - the mobile phone comparison site comments:
“Although it is great to see OFCOM taking some action about the growing problem of mis-selling and slamming in the mobile phone arena, it seems to once more be a case of too little, too late.”
“Mobile Phone mis-selling is on the rise with approximately 100 cases per week being reported and many more going unreported. The voluntary code of conduct does not go far enough in stating best practice for third party salespeople and does not hold networks accountable enough for customers who are promised huge discounts from third parties only to find out that the company no longer exists when they come to claim their cash.”
“OFCOM has attempted to introduce a voluntary code of conduct in many other areas blighted by mis-selling in the past, none of which have had the desired effect of neutralising the problem so it’s disappointing to see them once again going down this road rather than taking stronger action now and cutting the problem off before it starts to snowball.”
“Consumers still need to be aware of this problem and take action against any unexpected calls claiming to offer them a better deal on their mobile.”
