Nokia identify a problem with their BL-5C Matsushita manufactured battery.

In February 2007 OneCompare.com reported that one of Nokia's most popular phones the 6280 emitted smoke and partially melted shortly after being switched on. Now in a separate case Nokia may have to replace over 46 million batteries that have been found to be faulty. Nokia state that the only batteries that are affected were manufactured by Matsushita Battery Industrial Co. Ltd between December 2005 and November 2006.
There have been approximately 100 incidents reported globally of the Nokia BL-5C battery over heating while charging. Although no serious injuries or property damage have been reported Nokia and Matsushita have announced that they will replace any BL-5C battery which may be affected. The over heating is initiated by a short circuit causing the battery to become dislodged.
