The eagerly anticipated Apple iPhone - can its performance live up to its hype?
Which? magazine have been lucky enough to get a preview of the latest gadget which is due to hit the shelves soon in the UK. Below is an account of what they have say about the Apple iPhone.
Breath-taking appearance
Firstly the front of the iPhone is a large, high resolution display which like the LG Prada mobile phone boasts touch screen navigation. This is said to work extremely well and is resistant to scratches. All the usual mobile phone menu applications are available from this screen, there is a virtual number pad for dialling and a virtual keypad for writing text messages. However these are both slightly different from the conventional smartphone number pads so they may take a little getting used to.
Sound Quality
The sound quality on calls is said to be nothing out of the ordinary and compared to most smartphones would not come out paramount. However when listening to the music player through the iPod style headphones is very impressive.
Battery
Which? are keen to express their delight with the impressive battery life of the iPhone which allows up to eight hours of talk time. Unfortunately though one of the major flaws with the iPhone as with the Apple ipod is that unlike most mobile phones you can't replace the battery pack. This means that should you experience any problems you will have to send the entire device back to the manufacturer. There is no set cost for this yet but in the US it's a pretty affair.
Extras
The iPhone is much more than a mobile phone it's packed with additional features to keep you entertained, a very impressive 4GB or 8GB music player with a 2MP camera and internet access. The iPhone isn't 3G compatible which means that it can be slower than many of its rivals at downloading and browsing data. At OneCompare we feel that a 2MP camera is no longer adequate on a top of the range mobile phone and may leave the iPhone at a disadvantage with rivals phones such as the Nokia N95, Samsung G600 and Sony Ericsson K950i featuring 5MP cameras,
Lastly Jon Barrow from Which? magazine gives his verdict:
“The iPhone looks stunning, is easy to navigate and has a great music player. However, the phone is not 3G compatible, and sound quality on calls isn't brilliant. Despite these flaws, there's a lot of excitement about the iPhone and I expect it will be just as successful here in the UK when it is launched as it has been in the US.”
The UK release date for the Apple iPhone is still uncertain and its price tag will be a major factor in its success. Of course you can get one for free if you are the lucky winner of our iPhone competition.
