The touchscreen smartphone gets a new slide out keyboard
This week HTC have announced the HTC Touch Dual PocketPC, which is an upgrade to the previously released HTC Touch. The alleged ‘iPhone killer’ has decided that it needed a traditional slide out keypad to make life easier. It has held onto the TouchFLO interface with the added benefit of being able to scroll through web pages, documents and contacts, zoom in and edit all with the swipe of a finger.
All the previous specifications have stayed almost the same except the Dual does have a couple of added benefits: it is now 3G capable with a secondary videocall camera and the RAM and ROM have both been doubled from the original. However, it is slightly bigger and heavier than the Touch, due to the keyboard and HTC have decided to omit the Wi-Fi feature which may bother some, despite the 3G add on.
- Size: 107 x 55 x 15.8 mm
- Weight: 120 g
- Screen: TFT touchscreen, 65K colours, 240 x 320 pixels, 2.6 inches
- Camera: 2 MP, 1600x1200 pixels, video; secondary CIF video call camera
- Memory: 128 MB RAM, 256 MB ROM and expandable by microSD card
- Connection: GPRS, EDGE, 3G, HSDPA, Bluetooth and miniUSB
- OS: Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional
- Messaging: SMS, MMS, Email, Instant Messaging
- Phone Type: Slide
- Extras: TouchFLO finger swipe navigation and handwriting recognition
This is a neat and stylish looking smartphone with great features, and will no doubt be compared to the ever mentioned iPhone.
The HTC Touch Dual PocketPC will no doubt prove to be a popular choice to those needing a smartphone with 3G capabilities, and is due for release in November 2007.
