Brand new MVNO offering 9 month contracts
Vodafone and Carphone Warehouse have teamed up to launch a new Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) offering 9, 18 and 24 month contracts. This is quite a strange move as a year ago Vodafone stopped Carphone from selling it’s contracts, but has now gone into business with them selling contracts under the name of Talkmobile.
Talkmobile will offer low cost contracts on a shorter term, which sounds like a fantastic deal – but be prepared to pay for your handset! The most expensive line rental on Talkmobile is just £18 per month, meaning that there is a lack of high end handsets available – as they would probably cost too much and put customers off.
The tariffs are available in 3 levels:
- £12 line rental for 50 minutes and 50 messages
- £15 line rental for 75 minutes and 75 messages
- £18 line rental for 100 minutes and 100 messages
All calls made out of allowance will cost 20ppm, text messages over the allowance will cost 10p. Compared to other networks these tariffs are good value, an allowance of just 100 minutes on a 12 month contract would cost £25 on o2 for example. Most networks do not seem to cover such low usage, so for those using fewer minutes and not wanting to pay higher line rentals for allowances they will never use, this will be ideal.
Despite the fact that you have to pay for some handsets these are good deals for those who are looking for low line rentals or want to take a shorter contract length. There are a few phones that are free on 9 month contracts, such as the Samsung C300 and Motorola W220.
Talkmobile would be a good option for those on PAYG who have been considering taking a step into the world of contracts, but without being signed up for a full 12 months – or 18 as most networks seem to push us towards these days.
