The ever-changing mobile phone industry to be assessed
Ofcom will be meeting in the new year to discuss issues that have been affecting the mobile industry recently. Topics will include mis-selling, slamming, cashback and porting numbers.
In 2007 network operators have sought assistance from the courts, and with complaints to consumer helplines increasing greatly Ofcom have come under increasing pressure.
3 are currently challenging the porting rules, while Vodafone, o2, T-Mobile and Orange are appealing to the European Court of Justice about the EU roaming cap. Consumer Direct have received a very high number of complaints about cashback this year, they have dropped over the past few months but have still been much higher than in 2006.
Ofcom will be looking to promote the interests of consumers of mobile products, and expects to publish guidelines about the review early in 2008.
