Garmin move in on the phone market
Sat Nav manufacturer Garmin, who are one of the worlds leading GPS manufacturers, are about to take their first step into the mobile phone market. The recently announced Garmin Nuvifone is a Sat Nav with a difference, it has the same software as the Garmin Nuvi Sat Nav but with the added bonus of mobile phone features.
The Nuvifone will be 3G with HSDPA, have a music and video player, camera with video record and be completely touch controlled. Exact specifications are yet to be released, as the phone is not due out until late summer 2008.
The GPS is obviously quite impressive on the Nuvifone, the main screen will have three icons for Call, Search and View Map making it easy to navigate its main features. Garmin have stated that it’s GPS will seamlessly incorporate Google’s local search, allowing you access to local information and features based on your current position.
An impressive feature is the way it can handle calls and GPS functions simultaneously. If you are on a call and need to start your journey using GPS you simply need to place the Nuvifone in it’s dock and it will automatically turn on the GPS, bring up the navigation menu and transfer your call to hands-free.
Expect more information on the specifics of the phone features, i.e. camera quality in the next few months.
