USB dongle offered to existing customers only
Wednesday, April 23, 2008
O2 have finally entered the mobile broadband arena, the last of the big five UK networks to do so. They have apparently taken their time over this in order to make sure that it works properly, and to make sure that they are ‘getting the customer experience right’.
The O2 Mobile Broadband USB dongle is available for free on an 18 month contract or for £119.99 on a rolling monthly contract. While the monthly charges are set at £20 per month for 3GB of data usage, plus unlimited access to Wi-Fi through the Cloud network. Any usage over the 3GB will be charged at 20 pence per MB.
The actual USB dongle has a colour coded LED to show you which network you are connected to (GPRS, EDGE, 3G, HSDPA or The Cloud).
Strangely o2 have chosen to make their Mobile Broadband offer only available to existing customers, although this does include o2 contract mobiles, Home Broadband and o2 Pay & go customers (who top up a minimum of £30 per quarter). Those who disconnect from the other o2 services will be charged an extra £10 per month on their o2 Mobile Broadband subscription.
