Increase in cost to call non-geographic numbers from September

Vodafone have recently announced that they will be increasing the cost to call certain non-geographic numbers. They have sent letters and text messages to all their customers informing them of the price changes to take place on the 1st September 2008.

The cost to call 05, 080, 084 numbers will be increasing from 15 pence per minute to 20 pence per minute. Calls to 0871 numbers will be increasing from 25 pence per minute to 35 pence per minute.

Vodafone had released a statement saying that they do not believe that the changes will have a significant impact on their customers. And that this is the first year that they have revised prices in over two years.

This will only increase the call to have 08 numbers treated the same as geographic numbers – Ofcom set out proposals in June saying that all 08 numbers should be treated the same as ‘normal’ landline calls. Customers can avoid paying higher numbers to call 08 lines by using websites such as ‘say no to 0870’ which lists alternative geographic numbers for organisations.
