Camera phones have come a long way, check out our run down of the best camera phones available on the market

The time when a mobile phone camera was only just good enough for a small postage stamp sized photo for when someone calls is almost extinct. Today’s camera phones are starting to rival digital cameras for when you need to take snaps on the move.

The advantages are obvious, if you need to take a quick snap you almost always have your mobile phone on you, whereas a digital camera is an extra item in your pocket and is traditionally somewhat bulkier than most mobiles. The only real disadvantage that camera phones face is the lack of true optical zoom facilities, though for quick snaps of your friends and families the digital zooms offered by the higher end camera phones are perfectly capable. So without further ado, here are our top 5 camera phones available today.

The Sony Ericsson K750i family: Boasting a two megapixel camera, landscape picture modes for a familiar photo taking experience and Sony Ericsson’s autofocus feature, the K750i family of phones sits high atop our list as the overall best camera phone on the market today. The K750i family includes the Sony Ericsson K750i itself, the D750i which is T-mobiles version of the phone in the UK and the walkman branded W800i.

The Sharp 903: In the runner up spot sits Sharps mould breaking 903 camera phone. Though it’s swivel design is a nice feature it’s really the 3.2 megapixel camera that makes this phone, providing the highest amount of megapixels in a mobile phone currently available.

The Sharp 903: At 3 is this 2 megapixel camera phone from Panasonic. You will be taking shots in a more traditional mode for a mobile phone which is a downside, but the major reason for the high placing of this model is it’s budget price for such high quality photographs.

The Samsung D600: Samsungs D600 provides a good 2 megapixel camera with a host of other features in the popular sliding design first seen in the D500, however it seems to struggle with shots taken indoors more than the other models featured which dropped it’s position.

The Nokia N90: There was a big buzz about this camera phone before it’s release because it was the first to pay attention to lens quality by featuring a Carl Zeiss lens. However unfortunately it doesn’t subjectively seem to have improved picture quality as much as expected meaning that the extra cost of a good lens in this handset simply isn’t justified, though it does have several other good features and is 3G capable.
