OneCompare.com respond to the Ofcom consumer guide to international call costs
Wednesday, January 25, 2006
Anthony Ball, director of independent mobile phone comparison and switching service comments on today’s consumer guide to international roaming costs by Ofcom.
“It’s nice to see the regulator taking note of the extortionate call costs implemented by UK mobile phone providers and although it covers most areas it doesn’t focus enough on the best way of saving money on your international calls – buying a foreign SIM card. By going into a local phone store in the country that you are in and purchase a SIM card you can save a lot of cash. It really doesn’t matter too much which SIM card you choose; they will all be far less costly when calling the UK and you won’t be charged to receive calls. If that sound a bit daunting you can also buy a foreign SIM card online prior to travelling. The best places to go to buy a foreign SIM include 0044.co.uk and uk2abroad.co.uk”
Ball concludes, “A cap should be introduced by Ofcom on these international call costs as these prices fluctuate too much between providers. Ofcom should also pressure the industry into lowering international call prices.”
