Networks complain as O2 got the exclusive partnership with Apple
3’s annual summer ball was held recently, and they used the event to voice their concerns about the iPhone and it’s partner network - 3 claimed that O2 was the wrong network for the iPhone.
3 also promised all the guests at the event, which included dealers and distributors that it was serious about doubling the size of its business with brand new initiatives. 3 are hopeful that they will do this within the next year.
3 say that they are poised for rapid growth, having built the biggest 3G network and gained a 40% share of Skype’s business. Three will also benefit from any reduction in termination rates, and they have hinted that they would use any price drops to offer unlimited voice bundles in their contracts.
The main point that was picked up on was that 3 also said that the iPhone is not on the best or right network, a handset is only as good as its operator and sadly O2 has the least developed 3G network.
Speaking to the public 67% agreed that O2 were a more well known network, and they can get a better signal on o2 rather that 3 – however it is the 3G coverage that is in question which is lacking compared to o2.
