This installment in our series showcasing Sony Ericsson's new handsets features the Sony Ericsson K610i, a very good looking 3G model.

Sony Ericsson are continuing their focus on 3G phones as are most of the major handset makers by spicing up their popular Sony Ericsson K600i model. The K600i was a good foray into the world of 3G for Sony Ericsson, bringing a fairly small and light 3G phone to the market which wasn't dissimilar to the Sony Ericsson K750i in it's intended look and use, however some of the features that made the K750i a hit were not as well accomplished on the K600i.

The major drawback of the K600i was that although it had similar technology in the way that the camera worked to the K750i, it only produced 1.3 megapixel images as opposed to the 2 megapixel pictures produced by it's 2G cousin. It was also markedly larger and heavier although it was a huge improvement for 3G phones at the time.

However, coming soon we have the Sony Ericsson K610i, which is every bit the equal of the K750i, and even seems that it may surpass it in some areas.

First of all lets take a look at the technical features of the K610i. The most important of course being the camera, which this time is an excellent 2 megapixels. We also have a 176x220, 262,000 colour display just like the K750i and expandable memory up to 1GB. As an added bonus the K610i comes with the Disc2Phone software which was bundled with the Walkman variant of the K750i, the Sony Ericsson W800i, and of course with this being a 3G phone let's not forget the second camera for video calling mounted discretely on the main face of the phone which was obviously missing from the K750i.

Impressive as that is, it doesn't really mean a whole lot if this device ends up being substantially bigger and heavier when it is in your pocket, and once again the K610i comes up trumps. The height and width are within a millimeter or two of the K750i but the huge surprise from the K610i is that is comes in a full 4mm thinner than the K750i and an impressively slim 17mm in depth. This is most likely why, even though there is extra technology in the K610i, it weights just 92 grams, around 8 grams less than the K750i.

The K610i is sure to be a winner and help to further the transition to 3G from 2G in the UK, keep up to date on the best deals available by clicking on our best deals page for the Sony Ericsson K610i.
