Consumers get wise to the tactic of fancy new phones for uncompetitive deals
There are still huge numbers of mobile phone users with overpriced and incorrect mobile phone deals for their specific user type. According to independent mobile phone tariff website OneCompare.com, only 16% say they would switch providers for a better handset which blows a hole in most mobile phone providers marketing tactics. The figures go on to highlight that 58% would prefer to save money on their mobile phone bills with more free calls and free texts than have the latest mobile phone technology.
Cost continues to be the main driver in the mobile market although we collectively continue to waste almost £1bn on our mobile phone bills. The research suggests that 55% of people are paying at least £360 per year each on their mobile phone bills while a monthly saving of between £15-£20* can be made if the correct package is chosen.
Anthony Ball, director of independent mobile tariff comparison website OneCompare.com said: “I’m not surprised that consumers find the market confusing. Not only because there are so many tariffs and offers out there but the technology being marketed by leading providers is simply unwanted at this stage and masks the true lack of value the deal offers.”
The figures further highlight the existing lack of understanding and desire to use the latest forms of technology via their handset. It is a worrying statistic for the leading providers as production of highly complex mobile technology continues to be a large part of their marketing strategy to try and grab market share.
