O2 release their new mobile phone call plans
We wrote yesterday about the announcement that Vodafone will be releasing their new pay monthly tariffs next month offering customers more inclusive minutes and richer bundles however O2 have fought back with their new tariffs which are available to new and upgrading customers.
The new tariffs offer more inclusive minutes for lower line rental prices compared to the old tariffs. If you sign up to an 18 month contract you will receive an extra 50% any network call minutes per month compared to the 12 month deal at the same line rental price. Extra incentives to sign up to a tariff with a line rental of £35 or higher are – free voicemail (which on other plans is 20p per minute), rollover of unused minutes and messages and free ITS (International travelers service – this gives you cheaper call rates when you travel abroad).
All plans now have a 24/7 flat rate for calls to any network anytime of 20p per minute once outside of your inclusive minutes. Text messages are 12p and picture and video messages 25p.
O2 stores are also offering a ‘Long Weekends’ promotion. This gives people who sign up to a 12 month contract 6 months of free calls every Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Customers signing up to an 18 month contract get free Saturday, Sunday and Monday calls for life. The terms and conditions state that O2 can withdraw and amend this promotion at any time on reasonable notice.
Once again O2 has stated that customers will receive notice via a text message before any promotional changes are made. This is something to be wary of. We have recently covered stories where O2 have recently stopped a free web browsing promotion where many customers were not informed of the changes, which resulted in large mobile phone bills as well as a similar situation with O2’s withdrawal of its original pay as you go service.
