Staggering survey results reveal how children and teenagers use their mobile phones
A recent survey by Mobile Life commissioned by Carphone Warehouse has shown that 91% of 12 year olds now own a mobile phone. They also found that nearly half of 10 year olds also own their own mobile phone. The survey which polled 1250 11-17 year olds also found the interesting results below:
42% of girls aged between 15 and 17 would feel ‘unwanted’ if they did not receive a phone call all day.
2/3 of 15-17 year olds would not allow their parents to look through there mobile phone.
25% of all surveyed said that they had been asked out on a date via a text message.
Young people also revealed that they used their phones for social rather than practical reasons.
Other findings where that 1/3 adults think 11 year olds should own a mobile phone, but over half of parents thinks 11 year olds should have their own phone. This could be for practical and safety issues, as young people having mobiles allow the parent to keep in touch all the time.
Another interesting statistic showed that young people are 3 times more likely to communicate via text message than adults, although this could be due to younger people trying to keep their mobile costs down.
