The Pixel 3a XL is Google's affordable mid-range smartphone with extra-large OLED display, if you're looking for the same phone but in a smaller guise then consider the Pixel 3a. Contents Google Pixel 3a XL - quick facts: Larger screen, fully OLED Highly specced, brilliant design Pixel 3a XL - Camera review Our verdict on the Pixel 3a XL Google Pixel 3a XL price in UK The powerful main camera of the Pixel 3a XL is best suited for shooting great photos, and while it's packing a serious punch in the specs department, it does have a few shortcomings as you would expect at this reduced price. Let's delve in and take a closer look at this ever-popular smartphone from Google: Google Pixel 3a XL - quick facts: Brilliant Full HD Plus display Main camera with night vision function and portrait mode Sturdy 3700 mAh battery Larger screen that its little brother, the Pixel 3a The cheap Google Pixel 3a XL differs from the smaller counterpart called the Pixel 3a primarily through the display. While the smaller model features a 5.6-inch screen in a slightly longer 18.5: 9 format, the XL version gives you a lush 6-inch display. It also boasts Full HD Plus quality on its screen with a resolution total of 2160 × 1080 pixels. Larger screen, fully OLED To accommodate that larger screen, the case (again with plastic back) is slightly larger and heavier. With dimensions of 16 × 7.6 × 0.8 cm, it is about 1 cm longer and 6 mm wider than its compact counterpart. Also, rather obviously, the battery has a higher capacity due to the larger energy requirements from that screen - coming in at a total of 3700 mAh. Ultimately these changes make themselves felt; the higher weight of 167g instead of 147g doesn't sound like much , but it is noticeable when you compare them side-by-side. Otherwise, the bigger XL model offers you the same mid-range ingredients as the Pixel 3a. These include a fast Snapdragon 760 processor, and the Android 9.0 Pie operating system with 4 GB of memory and 64 GB of internal memory. As this is Google we're talking about, expect Android One shortly to be added to your downloads list... we're told it will be fully supported by default. Highly specced, brilliant design You’ll find the same Pixel Imprint fingerprint sensor here as on the Pixel 3/XL, and the same single camera module. The Pixel Imprint fingerprint sensor continuously improves detection rate and security with repeated use. The Pixel 3a XL also includes the Titan M security module from the flagship Pixel phones. Titan M brings added security to all Pixel phones and is responsible for storing all biometric and lock code data. On to the design, and how elegant this thing actually looks... It's a real product of human endeavour: Be it the pastel orange on the button, or the soft transition between matte and glossy elements at the back of the phone, there’s a soft, human approach to design here. Do note that within a week of use, the white polycarbonate has already picked up a few scuffs and stains. It’ll be very hard to keep this phone looking pristine. I suspect the black variant might fare better. Pixel 3a XL - Camera review What makes the mid-range smartphone particularly attractive - particularly for mobile photography fans- is the main camera. With a resolution of 12.2 megapixels and an image angle of 76°, expect high-quality photos. Indeed, according to this review they saw some pretty impressive image results. On to the 8 megapixel front camera, however, here the manufacturer waived the dual function with 2 different focal lengths. The fully fledged Pixel 3 XL might be a better bet if you've got a larger budget and want to stay loyal to Google. Ultimately the 3a is a slimmed down version of that model after all, and that is reflected in the price. Our verdict on the Pixel 3a XL If you’re after an affordable alternative to the increasingly expensive top-end devices out there, yes is the answer. This isn’t a cheap phone, but it offers a lot for the money, and can compete with impressive mid-range handsets like the OnePlus 7 Pro. So to summarise, buy this if you want a top camera phone, but don’t want to spend thousands of pounds on something that may just get lost or stolen. If however you want blistering performance or a stunning-looking display this won’t be able to offer that - if so, then consider something like the Huawei P30 Pro.
