OnePlus 6T: Solid smartphone, small notch

The OnePlus 6T is available in 2 colours in the UK: Midnight Black with a rugged structure and Mirror Black  with a glossy surface, which is lovely, but very prone to fingerprints. According to our reviewer, the rounded edges and the back of glass are innovate and made a good impression. Compared to its predecessor the 5, the unpopular Notch in the display has been shrunk down considerably and looks much smaller. As a result, there is no longer a "status" LED either.

But there are some negatives:  a headphone jack and the rear fingerprint scanner have been stripped; the latter is now integrated in the display, as with the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

Also new is the face scanner: unlocking works flawlessly with both techniques. Of course, there is also a fingerprint and the PIN input method if you don't want to use face unlocking.

OnePlus 6T - Display

With the display, the improvements are limited compared to the predecessor sadly. Again, an OLED panel is used, which is now slightly larger with 6.41 inches. According to TechAdvisor,  it offers 4 times higher contrast, but the brightness has decreased significantly.

The phone has 2 lenses effectively... One with 16 megapixels and another with 20 megapixels for depth effects. There is also an AI, which should get the best out of the photos. But all this has not led to any qualitative improvement - in the testing we did, the main camera even outperformed that of its predecessor.

That said, colours, contrast and sharpness are pretty decent. Only in low light, the noise increases noticeably.

OnePlus 6T - Battery

In terms of performance, the OnePlus 6T is well-equipped with the Snapdragon 845 CPU. Not only everyday applications, but even elaborate games pose no problem. We noticed that it outperformed its predecessor in several benchmark tests by 11%.  High-resolution VR content is displayed at an average of 57 fps.

The battery capacity has grown from 3300 to 3700 mAh as well; according to our reviewer the battery lasts 1.3 hours longer than its predecessor ever did.

This review determined that  at14:25 hours, battery life is slightly better than the Galaxy Note 9. Our own reviewer also praises the fast charge of approximately 1:27 hours, but ufortunately, you have to give up here again  if you want wireless charging as it's not included.

Up-to-date software

The operating system is Android 9 with OxygenOS, you may not have heard of this if you're new to OnePlus, but be assured it is fast, intuitive and kept up to date. In addition to numerous extras, such as the cloning of apps, is now the first time a gesture control has been used in Android... The memory can not be upgraded, but you can use a 2nd Nano SIM card.

OnePlus 6T - Our Verdict

"Unlock The Speed" - the slogan of the OnePlus 6T is indeed true. Only a few smartphones were currently faster at the time of launch, although this has now changed - but you need to pay a higher price for that; on balance the 6T looks good value now.

So OnePlus have done it again - this is a great phone, somewhat similar to its predecessor which disappointed many reviewers as they like to see changes and updates made, but we can't complain.  Also worthy of note are things like the face scanner, the small notch and the long battery life. Otherwise there are hardly any differences to the predecessor.

OnePlus 6T price in UK

On contract expect to pay £20 a month for an 18 month contract. If you prefer to buy the handset, then the price is £349 in the UK, this has dropped significantly since launch.
