About 6T - Review, Specs + more

With the OnePlus 6T you get a very fast smartphone, which is ideal for gaming, but it has since been superceded by the OnePlus 7 Pro family, -- so is the 6T still worthy of being in your pocket? Let's find out...

Solid smartphone with small notch

The OnePlus 6T is available in 2 colours: Midnight Black with a rugged structure and Mirror Black  with a glossy surface, which is lovely, but very prone to fingerprints. According to our reviewer, the rounded edges and the back of glass make a noble impression. Compared to its predecessor the 5, the unpopular Notch in the display has become smaller. As a result, there is no longer a status LED.

Also missing this time a jack and the back fingerprint scanner. The latter is now integrated in the display, as with the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

Also new is the face scanner: unlocking works flawlessly with both techniques. Of course, there is also a sample procedure and a PIN input.

Few changes with the display and the camera

With the display, the improvements are limited compared to the predecessor sadly. Again, an OLED panel is used, which is now slightly larger with 6.41 inches. According to TechAdvisor,  it offers 4 times higher contrast, but the brightness has decreased significantly.

The main camera has 2 lenses. One with 16 megapixels and another with 20 megapixels for depth effects. There is also an AI, which should get the best out of the photos. But all this has not led to any qualitative improvement - in the testing we did, the main camera even outperformed that of its predecessor.

That said, colours, contrast and sharpness are convincing. Only in low light, the noise increases noticeably.

Strong performance, long battery life

In terms of performance, the OnePlus 6T is well-equipped with the Snapdragon 845 CPU. Not only everyday applications, but even elaborate games pose no problem. We noticed that it can outperform its predecessor in the Antutu benchmark by 11%. High-resolution VR content is displayed at an average of 57 fps.

The battery capacity has grown from 3300 to 3700 mAh as well; according to our reviewer the battery lasts 1.3 hours longer than its predecessor.

This review determined that  with 14:25 hours a battery life is slightly better than the Galaxy Note 9. Our reviewer also praises the fast charge of approximately 1:27 hours, come up with similar values. Unfortunately, you have to give up here again on a wireless charging.

Up-to-date software

The operating system is Android 9 with OxygenOS used. It is fast, intuitive and always up to date. In addition to numerous extras, such as the cloning of apps, is now the first time a gesture control has been used in Android... The memory can not be upgraded, but you can use a 2nd Nano SIM card.

Our Verdict

"Unlock The Speed" - the slogan of the OnePlus 6T is indeed true. Only a few smartphones were currently faster at the time of launch, although this has now changed - but you need to pay a higher price for that. So the 6T is a great phone, somewhat similar to its predecessor which disappointed many reviewers as they like to see changes and updates made

But praiseworthy are also the face scanner, the small Notch and the long battery life. Otherwise there are hardly any differences to the predecessor.

OnePlus 6T price UK

On contract expect to pay £20 a month for an 18 month contract. If you prefer to buy the handset, then the price is £349 in the UK currently.

Not sure which Mobile network to go for?

OneCompare completely gets it, it's not easy trying to understand the differences of each mobile network operator. Is o2 any better than Vodafone for this smartphone, when it comes to coverage? Or worse? It's a real minefield. Another example, which is better? A OnePlus 6T ee contract or a OnePlus 6T Tesco Mobile contract?

The reality is, it can make a huge difference to your satifaction with the overall product. Who wants to have cruddy download speeds? But never fear - OneCompare is here. Don't forget to check our latest Blog posts below.

Before you decide to buy a contract or handset, it's important to know if you'll get a signal. Who wants to be walking around into mobile network's blackholes?! After all, ordering your brand new OnePlus 6T contract only to find you can't use your data (never mind going over the allowance!) in your own house will be pretty not cool.

A simple website a number of our visitors have used is Open Signal which maps signal across all major mobile networks across the UK.

So which network has the best signal?

According to Which?, In their latest research, covering June to August 2017, they focused on 4G performance and found that EE offered the fastest average 4G download speeds of the four networks (EE, O2, Three and Vodafone). While EE customers enjoyed average 4G download speeds of 29Mbps, those using the O2 network had to put up with an average speed of just 15.1Mbps.

EE's network was also at the top of the list when it came to the availability of its 4G signal, with customers able to access it 78.5% of the time. Customers with Three had the poorest access to a 4G signal - they were able to access it just 57.1% of the time - that's only just more than half the time, 24/7!

Should I buy SIM-Only, and will it save money?

In truth, this answer will depend on your personal financial circumstances, in combination with your mobile phone usage requirements.

Out of our 3009 OnePlus 6T deals, our cheapest OnePlus 6T deal over the entire life of the contract is £408.00, this includes any upfront handset cost and cashback redemption.

We have seen a number of scenarios where our cheapest contract is actually cheaper than buying the phone SIM free without any contract, this loophole can be a great way to save on your new phone and is largely possible as the Mobile Networks subsidise the handset cost to gain you as a new customer.

A relatively simple SIM Only comparison calculation is to add up how much a OnePlus 6T SIM free phone would cost, this is where you buy the phone without a contract and pay for the full cost of the handset upfront. The benefit here is flexibility: you're able to then compare the SIM Only contract market where Mobile Networks often give you far better usage allowances and shorter contract terms. Once you've found a SIM Only contract that meets your needs, note the monthly cost over the course of 24 months and add this to your SIM Free OnePlus 6T handset cost. You're now in a great position to compare this cost to a regular OnePlus 6T Contract.

Pro Tip: A great way to save a few extra pounds when comparing SIM Only contract is to consider purchasing a pre owned OnePlus 6T phone from the likes of Music Magpie who provide warranties and flexible handset payment terms.
