About Galaxy S7 edge - Review, Specs + more

The Galaxy S7 Edge is Samsung's high-performance, once high-end flagship that is now a few years old but still going strong. Whether processor performance, graphics, display or design - the S7 Edge convinces in all areas. LGalaxy S7 Edge differs from the normal "S6" model by having a rounded display that runs over the edges - and it looks stunning.

...But it is worth paying extra - or even worth considering at all when the S8 has replaced it? Let's find out...

It's still a star

Despite the reduced main camera resolution compared to its predecessor from 16 to 12 megapixels, the sensor has been given larger pixels, which is why the performance has been visibly improved under low-light conditions. The camera in oneCOMPARE's own tests gave an excellent impression - the crisp whites and blacks clearly distinguishable.

The speed of the S7 edge itself has also been improved; the Edge menu optimisations are very pleasing. The TouchWiz interface, however, has undergone very few changes and we're not even sure if people use it.  Despite the size of 5.5", the model doesn't feel too big - although if you have smaller hands then you might struggle to reach across that large screen.

Fast performance, even faster

Under the hood of the European version there is an octa-core processor with 2.3 GHz and 1.6 GHz clock rate paired with 4GB of RAM, which is extremely fast. There is no 5G support here, but there is LTE support.

Improvements become clear with regard to the GPU: For example, a liquid cooling system is used which should keep the gaming processor and graphics chip cool. A pre-installed game launcher will block all notifications when playing. Although like with the S7 model, one wished there was a USB -C connection. Also, an internal memory of at least 64 GB would have been a nice bonus. But with the watertight case and the memory card slot, this is one smart cookie.

And then there's that screen. The additional display space not only looks great, but also provides useful new usage features that make the device even more intuitive. The display has an extremely sharp resolution with 2560 x 1440 pixels. Let's look at the screen some more...

Not exactly 'no frills'

The AMOLED technology provides exceptionally strong colours, true black and strong luminosity and is also very energy efficient. This is important because the S7 Edge is powered by a powerful octa-core processor that clocks at 2.3GHz. For demanding smartphone gaming, the processor is also supported by the eight-core Mail T760 graphics chip. were also mightily impressed.

With the Galaxy S7 Edge, Samsung has responded to customer requests and made sure that the internal memory can be upgraded to up to 200 GB via a microSD card. In addition, it can withstand water for one hour at one metre depth. If you need a premium smartphone for years to come, but don't want to spend a lot, you will be well advised to opt for the S7 Edge.

How much does an S7 edge cost on contract?

Not too much, actually. You can pay £0 upfront (basically, get a 'free' phone) and pay only £25 a month for 18 months. That's a very cheap and affordable way to buy a smartphone that is feature-packed, looks the part, and is very well built. Just watch that screen and don't drop it!

Should I buy an S7 edge?

Our advice is most certainly yes. This is a great smartphone and probably our first choice even now if you don't want to spend more than £25 a month on a contract. This smartphone has nearly all of the featuers of newer phones like the S8 that replaced it, and there are so few negatives that it's definitely one to opt for.

If you can afford to spend a bit more, then the Galaxy S8 plus replaced this model and is worthy of your time too - compare deals for the S8 plus now.

EE's network was also at the top of the list when it came to the availability of its 4G signal, with customers able to access it 78.5% of the time.
