About Galaxy S9 plus - Review, Specs + more

The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is the larger and slightly more powerful brother of the Galaxy S9 - which is not exactly in need of loads more power. So is the "Plus" a pointless and flashy big brother, or worthy of your consideration with its phablet feel? Let's find out...

A modestly improved powerhouse...?

The Exynos 9810 Octa processor is responsible for the computing power - with 8 cores and 2.8 GHz clock frequency it provides a first-class performance. It has 4 GB of RAM available and is controlled by the Android 8.0 operating system (Oreo).

The smooth working and the wide selection of apps and games on Android especially benefit passionate mobile gamers. The equipment of the Samsung also includes various interfaces, such as the connection of other devices, headset or headphones is possible via jack, USB and Bluetooth.

The standards Bluetooth 5.0 and USB 3.1 ensure fast data transmission between your computer or peripherals. A connection to the Internet can be established in the home network thanks to the WLAN  interface as well as on the road via the extra-fast 4G mobile network, however there is no 5G.

Dual-SIM ready

If you want to use 2 different contracts, for some reason or other, you can insert both SIM cards into the dual SIM card slot, so you benefit from the advantages of different network providers and do not have to carry around 2 phones. A helpful feature especially for those who use their phone for both business and pleasure.

Both are fully-loaded, even model capacities as lowe as the 64GB model, has enough space for applications and other files. There is also a microSD slot, so that the internal memory can be increased.

The S9 has been very well received by critics, but the larger S9 Plus generally has the edge. TechRadar gave it 4.5 out of 5, and said that while it looks too similar to the S8 Plus from the year before, the curved screen isn't just a gimmick but seriously improves the entire experience.

Crystal clear memories - forever

Pictures can be easily created with the existing camera.Photo enthusiasts can enjoy the same at the same time over the 2 cameras of the Samsung telephone: With the powerful main camera photograph you like with a normal digital camera.

The high resolution of 12 megapixels makes it possible to take unique pictures that are perfect for printing. So that your pictures do not shake even in weaker ambient light, the camera lens can mechanically stabilize the picture. The video function can record movies in 4K quality.

The 8 megapixel front-facing selfie camera promises quite detailed selfies and a pleasant picture in video conferencing.

With some great additional features, the S9 is worthy of consideration over the S9.

  • A fingerprint sensor protects your mobile phone data even more from external access.
  • In standby mode, the battery life is about 550 hours - truly incredible.
  • Calling time of 20 hours+ is still no problem.
  • The outer shell is dust and water resistant so you are ready to lead an active life.
  • Slightly bigger screen and more power means the S9 Plus is worth it over the S9, unless you are bothered by the larger size in your hand.

Buying an S9 plus on Contract

Even though this phone is now over a year old, and replaced by the newer S10 plus, the S9 plus is still not exactly cheap. In fact the average price is about £450 today for this handset if bought outright. Most people prefer to spend that over the course of a few months to make it more affordable.

Using the filters at the top of this page, you can drag across to find the exact monthly plan to match your needs. Do you want free Airpods 2 or another free gift, or do you only need 5GB of data for example - not 100GB!? Adjust the sliders and find your suitable contract plan now with oneCOMPARE, it's free!

The average pay monthly price for the S9 plus is about £32, so not too expensive when you consider everything that you've got with it. And if you want to sell your S9 plus after your contract is up, then you can get up to £300 for it.

Not sure which Mobile network to go for?

OneCompare completely gets it, it's not easy trying to understand the differences of each mobile network operator. Is o2 any better than Vodafone for this smartphone, when it comes to coverage? Or worse? It's a real minefield. Another example, which is better? A Samsung Galaxy S9 plus ee contract or a Samsung Galaxy S9 plus Tesco Mobile contract?

The reality is, it can make a huge difference to your satifaction with the overall product. Who wants to have cruddy download speeds? But never fear - OneCompare is here. Don't forget to check our latest Blog posts below.

Before you decide to buy a contract or handset, it's important to know if you'll get a signal. Who wants to be walking around into mobile network's blackholes?! After all, ordering your brand new Samsung Galaxy S9 plus contract only to find you can't use your data (never mind going over the allowance!) in your own house will be pretty not cool.

A simple website a number of our visitors have used is Open Signal which maps signal across all major mobile networks across the UK.

So which network has the best signal?

According to Which?, In their latest research, covering June to August 2017, they focused on 4G performance and found that EE offered the fastest average 4G download speeds of the four networks (EE, O2, Three and Vodafone). While EE customers enjoyed average 4G download speeds of 29Mbps, those using the O2 network had to put up with an average speed of just 15.1Mbps.

EE's network was also at the top of the list when it came to the availability of its 4G signal, with customers able to access it 78.5% of the time. Customers with Three had the poorest access to a 4G signal - they were able to access it just 57.1% of the time - that's only just more than half the time, 24/7!

Should I buy SIM-Only, and will it save money?

In truth, this answer will depend on your personal financial circumstances, in combination with your mobile phone usage requirements.

Out of our 7945 Samsung Galaxy S9 plus deals, our cheapest Samsung Galaxy S9 plus deal over the entire life of the contract is £408.00, this includes any upfront handset cost and cashback redemption.

We have seen a number of scenarios where our cheapest contract is actually cheaper than buying the phone SIM free without any contract, this loophole can be a great way to save on your new phone and is largely possible as the Mobile Networks subsidise the handset cost to gain you as a new customer.

A relatively simple SIM Only comparison calculation is to add up how much a Samsung Galaxy S9 plus SIM free phone would cost, this is where you buy the phone without a contract and pay for the full cost of the handset upfront. The benefit here is flexibility: you're able to then compare the SIM Only contract market where Mobile Networks often give you far better usage allowances and shorter contract terms. Once you've found a SIM Only contract that meets your needs, note the monthly cost over the course of 24 months and add this to your SIM Free Samsung Galaxy S9 plus handset cost. You're now in a great position to compare this cost to a regular Samsung Galaxy S9 plus Contract.

Pro Tip: A great way to save a few extra pounds when comparing SIM Only contract is to consider purchasing a pre owned Samsung Galaxy S9 plus phone from the likes of Music Magpie who provide warranties and flexible handset payment terms.
