About Xiaomi Mi 9 SE - Review, Specs + more The Xiaomi Mi 9 SE houses a high-resolution triple camera, an AMOLED display and a fingerprint sensor. You charge your battery in less than 90 minutes. We recently raved about its slightly more-capable big brother the Mi 9, as well as the older variant the Mi 8, so is the SE worth considering as your next smartphone companion? Let's find out... Summary of contents: Xiaomi Mi 9 SE - Quick facts: Mi 9 SE - Design Verdict on the Mi 9 SE Xiaomi Mi 9 SE price in UK Xiaomi Mi 9 SE - Quick facts: Compact mid-range smartphone Snapdragon 712 processor 5.97 inch AMOLED display 48 megapixel triple camera system Very cheap to buy! The Mi 9 SE is a more compact version of the Mi 9 by Xiaomi. It comes with a shrunken 5.97-inch display but obviously costs less. If you don't need the "plus sized" Mi 9 then consider the SE version. Let's look at the differences: Both models use an energy-efficient and colour-intensive AMOLED panel, with a resolution of 2340 × 1080 pixels that complies with the Full HD + standard. Feature-rich phone The Mi 9 SE may be a lesser-known phone but it comes packed with features, as you would expect from Xiaomi - and it doesn't come at a particularly high retail price. A real highlight is the fingerprint sensor below the display. The phone is equipped with a 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 712 Octa Core and 6 GB RAM. Depending on the model variant, there is either 128 or 64 GB storage capacity available - but one thing to note, no upgrade is possible here, so make sure you choose the best size for your needs as you'll need to stick with it. A stand-out feature of this device is the triple camera. It consists of a 48-megapixel main sensor, an 8-megapixel telephoto lens, plus also a 13-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens. In front you will find a 20 megapixel camera with AI scene detection - perfect for selfie mode according to this review. Videos are recorded in 4K, which is quite something at this price. The interfaces include LTE and WLAN-ac Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and GPS (with Glonass support). Synchronizes and loads via a USB Type-C port. Support is also added for Quick Charge 3.0 technology, which fully charges the 3070 mAh battery in less than 1.5 hours. Mi 9 SE - Design All the buttons are on the right side of the phone, while a USB-C port and the single, bottom firing mono speaker are at the bottom. There’s a dual-SIM card slot to the right, and at the top there's an IR (infrared) blaster. The back of the phone is where you’ll find a camera bump, housing three cameras, and below it, a flash. With its high-gloss finish, the Mi 9 SE attracts fingerprints readily, but that’s virtually all we have to say against its design. It’s a wonderfully hand-holdable phone, is a joy to look at, and could be perfect for any smartphone user who’s craving something a bit more manageable. Phones like the Galaxy S10 Plus are great and all, but they are very large in the hand and a lot of people struggle. Verdict on the Mi 9 SE This is a great phone, with very few compromises, and actually quite hard to fault. It's cheap, it's packed with features and it's easily available on all the big networks such as Vodafone, EE and more. The MUIU android skin isn't our favourite and a lot of other people don't like it either, but if you can get past that, then the Mi 9 SE has to be one of our top three phones right now. Downsides are that there is no headphone socket, the storage capacity isn't upgradeable, and it's not available on some UK networks so you may want to look at buying the handset outright and then going Sim Only. Xiaomi Mi 9 SE price in UK Out now, and costs £349 in the UK, but can sometimes be found for less. The Xiaomi Mi 9 SE can be picked up officially for £349 though online prices drop below the £300 mark if you shop around in the UK.
