Samsung unveiled its Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra at the company's annual 'Unpacked' event. These three phones are now available to order in the UK, and there are plenty of exciting contract deals on offer. We'll take a look at the best pay monthly deals below.
This is the 'basic' Galaxy S23 which offers next-level performance thanks to a powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, along with a slick new One UI 5.1 operating system. It's also crammed with premium features like fast wireless charging and reliable fingerprint scanning.
It's been a while since we got a new phone that did anything truly exciting, and that's why it's so refreshing to see the Galaxy S23.
It's, by some measures, not the most revolutionary handset Samsung has made, but it is in our opinion one of the best phones it has released in years. Most surprising of all, it offers a lot of great features at an affordable price point (by Samsung standards anyway). Eat your heart out, Apple.
It's not for everyone, though. There are some drawbacks to the S23 (and the Ultra may be more up your street) , but we'll cover that later. If you're looking for a phone that puts ability and style ahead of gimmicks, then the Samsung Galaxy S23 is the device for you. It's also a very long-lasting handset, thanks to Samsung's commitment to providing major software updates for the next four years.
Samsung Galaxy S23: UK model review
The Samsung Galaxy S23 range is available to order in the UK with deals and trade-ins from all the major networks. With stacks of extras to grab, and money back on trade-ins for old handsets, it's a great time to jump in!
The S23 looks to improve on last year's Galaxy S22 model by adding an S-Pen stylus and an improved camera. It also doubles down on memory, starting from 256GB for the base model, with a 512GB upgrade option.
It's powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chip - a custom variant of Qualcomm's latest system-on-a-chip designed specifically for Samsung. This is said to be "the fastest Snapdragon ever" and should give gamers a console-style experience thanks to hardware-accelerated ray tracing, enabling realistic reflections, lighting and more.
The slightly larger Galaxy S23 Plus is the most powerful in this line-up, with a 10X optical zoom and 3X digital zoom cameras sat atop a hefty battery.
But if you don't need to shoot in low-light, the cheaper S23 is a better choice.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra - Should I get that instead?
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is a big, premium phone that packs in a lot of high-end features. It's not that cheap, though - but cheaper than prior versions at launch, which is surprising.
As you'd expect, all of the Galaxy S23 line models have a top-notch camera, and screens that feel very premium.But the Ultra screen jsut feels that little bit more special.
The Ultra is also the first smartphone from Samsung to feature Corning's new Gorilla Glass Victus 2 material, which is reportedly more durable and better at resisting scratches and damage.
How much does the Galaxy S23 cost in UK?
In the UK, the Galaxy S23 price is set at £849 at launch, that is for the 128GB model.
It's available to buy in the UK from 17 February 2023. It's not a chedap device by any means, but by Samsung standards it's not too bad. We've seen some truly shocking prices later on phone launches, but you can get some pretty sweet discounts if you pre-order it or use your old handset as part of a trade deal.
It's also worth noting that Samsung is enabling 5G on all S23 phones, which should give you a good boost to your mobile internet speed.
Recommended deal: Sky Mobile customers can watch boxsets, live telly and sports fixtures on Sky Go without using their 5G data allowance, which is a great deal. All from £25 upfront for a 36 month contract.
